Why do so many people lack common sense? I may not be very smart but common sense has gotten me through 62 years without being arrested, robbed, swindled, or attacked. Now sometimes things just happen no matter what you are doing but you can avoid most of these by cutting the odds in your favor.
Do not go places where trouble is known to happen, obey the law and if a police officer or someone in authority challenges you, stop and answer their questions with the truth.
I saw on the TV news where a man got drunk, was out in public and when challenged by the police, he ran. Did he really think that he could get away? The problem is that he did not think, he just ran, was chased, was caught and eventually tazed. Now he and his family are claiming that this happened because he is black… It happened because he was drunk in public and when challenged he ran, a stupid move. In the end he had suffered some pain and was arrested but he was not physically hurt, no broken bones.
I am guessing that this man has been in a similar situation before and has not learned the lesson that this experience produced for him.
Now I enjoy a drink once in a while, usually at home, but I seldom have two in a row because I know how easy it is to let things get out of hand. Thinking about the consequences of one’s actions before doing something stupid will save you embarrassment and possibly pain, think it over.
A few days before Christmas I was in K-mart and wandered to the back of the store when they announced that they would be giving away a free product as a promotion. I guess I wanted to waste 15 minutes and got a free plastic gadget for coring fruit. But while there a younger man, remember that I am 62, started talking to me, (why me?) and told me that he had lost his job because he threatened another employee for ratting on him. Now he is working for two thirds as much money so I asked him what he learned from this. He looked at me with a blank expression and said that he did not know what I meant. I told him that if he had thought about what could happen after he threatened the other man, being fired from the job, he probably would have not done it. He agreed so I told him that it is better to walk away than to lash out verbally in anger. Here again no common sense was used; it is always the person that reacts harshly to a situation that gets tagged for it. Ever watch sports?

looking forward to more of your common sense posts!
But, try wordpress, better blogging system, easier to use, i could help!
Couldn't have said it better myself! In fact, "The Death of Common Sense" was/is a favorite saying of mine....especially in my last profession!
Some would beg to differ that it is not "common sense" but lack of education, experience, etc. You have defined it well though.... It is NOT about already knowing but THINKING, thinking things through before acting on those thoughts....or better yet, controlling those thoughts to begin with! "Hold every thought captive"
This is definitely something I should have done last night for myself - but I CAN look back, realize my mistakes, apologize to all I offended, and learn from it!
Common sense: holding oneself accountable and being responsible for one's own actions!
Like the concept of your blog......:)
